February is Kilele time: Nairobi, Kenya’s electronic music summit returns for its third edition. That’s why COSMOS and Santuri East Africa invited two artists performing at this year’s summit, Mina (UK) and R_R_ (Latvia), to showcase what they’re brewing up for the festivities.

Mina is a producer and DJ from London, UK, who fuses together sounds from her hometown with rhythms from around the world. Her production style is highly collaborative, releasing music with several forward-thinking producers including Champion, Omagoqa, Dee Traits, Lamsi and anyoneID. Her most notable partnership is with Ghanaian vocalist Bryte, with whom she regularly tours internationally.
Mina has a deep commitment to grassroots club culture: through curating events for ten years with her collective Boko! Boko!, through her partnership with The Mist, a venue for experimental music in Nairobi, and through her alcohol-free day party ‘Club Soft’ in South London. Mina also has a monthly residency on NTS radio, and is the founder of ‘Funding with Mina’ a platform that aims to make grant-writing more accessible for creatives. For this special transmission from Nairobi, Mina put together a selection of recent inspirations and fellow musicians performing at this year’s Kilele summit.
Reinis Semēvics (R_R_ / Reinis Ramans) is a Latvian sound artist, lecturer and radio host based in Rīga. His work moves between ambient composition, electronic music and sound art, influenced by the many states of water and changes of environments. He has released music on Growing Bin Records and Public Possession, and is part of the community radio platform Tīrkultūra and the Independent Community Radio Network (ICRN). Ahead of his performance at Kilele, he put together an hour of music influences that inspired his latest album, Layers of a Stream, which will be released on cassette by Tokyo’s Kankyo Records.
