Announcing U?, Le Guess Who?'s largest free day program to date

U? is Le Guess Who’s participatory and freely accessible day program, made for–and with–the city of Utrecht. With U?, Le Guess Who? extends its mission to enrich people through music and culture even further to the city. From 10 to 13 November 2022, U? returns for its second edition.

This year, even more neighborhoods are taking part in the U? program. Aside from the city center, Lombok, 2e Daalsebuurt, Werkspoorkwartier, Transwijk and Cartesius, U? will expand to Overvecht and Wittevrouwen. The programs are made with, or even entirely by, Utrecht residents, local initiatives, entrepreneurs, social institutions and neighborhood centers. Residents and local initiatives were invited to participate by means of an open call, which resulted in a large amount of diverse and exciting submissions.

U? Festival news

U? provides the audience with a variety of events - from music performances, exhibitions, workshops, and city walks, to films, boxing matches, and a day rave. This first 54 activities are now revealed.

In Overvecht you can visit ZIMIHC Theater Stefanus, where you can participate in a dance workshop with John Kayongo from Kenya; taste different dishes from international caterers from Overvecht; and hear music from Kurdish group Cirkel om de Haard.

Discover what De Voorkamer in Lombok has to offer by participating in all kinds of activities, from lino printing and henna to embroidery and various games. Do you want to see more of the neighborhood? Join the Migrantour, an impressive walk through the district of Lombok, organized and led by people with a migration background.

In the Werkspoorkwartier, you can see and experience installations at De Nijverheid: enter the analogue photo booth of Het Kleinste Kamertje, and have a work of art by Aloïs 'Birdguy' van Bruchem screen printed on your t-shirt at Kunsthal Kloof. Freaky Dancing organizes an experimental club-afternoon, and on the same day there is a day rave at Hof van Cartesius, organized in collaboration with Antenne and Proces Kabaal.

Innovative hip-hop artist Ido Hoogendoorn is working hard to become a pioneer in the next rap generation. Under the name Heavyspitters, he hosts an afternoon full of raw hip hop acts at the boxing club Jimmy's Gym. This event will be interspersed with boxing matches and dance performances by breakdance group Ucrew.

In Transwijk, there will be live music all day long, with performances by Rotterdam’s Brintex Collective, a group inspired by jazz, hip hop and electronic music; and legendary Utrecht band We vs. Death, at their first show in nearly thirteen years. There will also be a stage hosted by experimental record label aural conduct.

During U?, you can also visit Het Huis van Betekenis, which presents three 'unheard' portraits of unhoused people who brave daily life in the city of Utrecht with courage and effort, as well as the new free art hub of Museum Speelklok, where work inspired by the music and technology of the museum is being exhibited.
