Workshop: Black Sound School (RSVP)
Sound & Culture Summit
Inviting & activating all lovers of sound: join us for a four-day workshop around Black cultural [sonic] heritage, soundsystem building, the politics of Amplification and more.
For the first iteration of this ongoing series of workshops facilitated by curator Raziyah Heath, the Black Sound School will lay the foundation for a Black-led community soundsystem in the Netherlands, focusing on shared cultural ownership of sound, music and sonic practices through learning to build together, effective assembly, practical skills and collective organization.
Next to practical lessons, the workshop also explores the cultural heritage of soundsystem culture: the histories, traditions that shaped how people gather through sound and music, collective ownership, physical structures and more. Through discussions, lectures, offerings by peers and pioneers, we’ll trace how soundsystems and speakers have been used as tools for expression, gathering, experimentation, belonging and worship.
Whether you’re brand new or have experience: come ready to learn, collaborate, contribute and dream up a future where the music belongs to us.
This workshop is RSVP based and Queer and BIPOC centered. We ask you kindly to only sign up when you are serious about attending. RSVPs will open on 6 October.
