When Cultures Meet
De Voorkamer is an open space where cultures meet to build community through creativity and exchange. For U? 2026, they invite the audience to a day of crafts, neighborhood exploration, shared food, and music.
They kick off with two parallel workshops previewing their autumn trajectories: textile artist Erin C. Doherty leads a sewing circle crafting talisman charms from second-hand fabrics. At the same time, artist Chuan-Yun Hsieh and designer Doğa Gönüllü are guiding a scavenger walk through Lombok, combining found urban textures with photography to create a collective zine about Utrecht.
Afterward, they'll gather for a community dinner prepared by De Voorkamer's chefs: a moment to share food and stories. They conclude with a Culture Shock concert featuring Senegalese percussionist Ibou Ndong and Dutch guitarist Tobias van der Pijl, blending West African rhythms, jazz, and classical influences into a lively performance.
Everyone is welcome to join any or all parts of the day.
