VOICES
Sound & Culture Summit
VOICES is the latest artistic project and campaign from V-Day, the global activist movement working to bring an end to violence against all women, gender-expansive people, girls, and the Earth. Directed by Grammy-nominated poet aja monet, this audioplay centers and celebrates the voices, values, and visions of Black women within that movement.
Presented in collaboration with Le Guess Who?, it invites audiences into an act of collective witness, a space where they can hear and be held by these voices in return. The listening experience will be followed by a conversation with writer and cultural programmer Simone Zeefuik and multidisciplinary artist, pleasure activist and storyteller Noleca Radway, moderated by VOICES project coordinator Aliyah Niambi DeVaughn.
VOICES is a project by Black Women, for ALL women: we define womanhood as making solidarity. We believe solidarity is not built through sameness, but through deep, intentional listening and holding space for stories too often silenced. By starting here, with the sacred act of listening, we awaken our ability to see and hold our sisters, so many stories away from us.
