vixnde
vixnde: pronounced viande [vjɑ̃d], meaning “meat” in French, is the life's work of Brussels-born singer-songwriter Viana Afoumou. This neologism and analogy crystallizes the discrepancies she experiences as a female artist; she realized that, in order to be a part of the music industry, she would have to brand, package and sell herself, while at the same time remaining “authentic” and presenting original work. She decided to play with these contradictions, by becoming her own product. Her genre, raw pop, is a wink to the extreme categorization of music, a pun to raw meat, and a reference to her sound. Her sonic universe is imperfect. Her songs are an act of deconstruction. Her voice is the main instrument. Having developed herself artistically first and foremost on stage, raw pop also refers to the live experience of her music.
