IDGK x Antipode – Live at Yuva (Istanbul, Turkey)
“Antipode” is a zine/book series mapping underground punk and DIY-culture from different regions and their diasporas. COSMOS Embassy IDGK is an Istanbul-based initiative documenting the city’s alternative music scene. When the launch tour of Antipode's first issue stopped in Istanbul, IDGK recorded and interviewed the featured bands in the backstage of club Karga for their “Yuva” series.
OCCII (Amsterdam, NL)
The iconic independent venue OCCII, is the eccentric-looking wooden building facing the southern entrance of Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Since 1984—when it was squatted, then legalized in 1992—it has been a venue for subversive sounds, underground music, film screenings and workshops, all rooted in DIY ethics. A home to all kinds of subcultures and DIY collectives, OCCII provides a cultural program that is hand-picked for those drawn to a wonderful and wide range of subversive sounds and music genres: global beats, noise, punk, folk, improv, rave, avant-garde and electronix.
In their documentary—or rather, DOCCII—director Shifra Osorio Whewell, and the team behind Amsterdam's iconic DIY venue, captures the spirit of the space in true OCCII fashion: a communal effort that's equal parts chaotic, creative and deeply ambitious.
Is There More Than The Street
Four young, eager students at the social academy, in their final year, time for their graduation thesis, and not in the mood for it. Not for a stack of paper full of text that would end up in a filing cabinet that no one would ever look into again. What they DID want: to tell something about the do-it-yourself punk culture that was raging around them right there in 1980, ’81. Showing something about that, about how you can shape your own future yourself, well now, THAT did appeal to them. In short, they decided to make a film. They had no clue, really, never done it before, but they did it anyway. Themselves. Anyway, they just started, with borrowed equipment, and they stuck the theme “Do It Yourself” to the squatted youth center Parkhof in Alkmaar, where a group of female punks in particular ran the place. Plus something about making fanzines and releasing your own records. Through trial and error they discovered what worked and what didn’t, resulting in a film of no less than 20 minutes, on Super 8. The result was to be expected: primitive and (somewhat unintentionally) experimental, but also sincere and full of passion. And 45 years later, that little piece of captured 80s zeitgeist has turned out to be as urgent as fuck once again, having actually never really gone away.
Tra Fasi (2026) by Charity Sumters
Charity Sumters’ directorial debut is a portrait of and tribute to the emerging Surinamese icon Shavero Ferrier. Having grown up in an environment where all manner of stigmas surrounding punk and rock prevailed, he single-handedly set up a community and thus ultimately built the alternative scene he himself would have liked to see. Driven by a soundtrack featuring bands from the past and present, such as Mutha Flac, Luguber and De Rotte Appels, the film bursts with self-expression and catharsis. Punks till death!
