With a wide-reaching impact on the contemporary music scene, Tortoise has steadily and intuitively evolved across its life, creating genreless music that is as timeless as it is ahead of the curve, releasing seven groundbreaking records since 1990. On the latest, Touch, they embrace their usual elegantly gnarled jazz ambience to dive into new grand gestures: aerodynamically re-engineered Krautrock, hand-cranked techno rave-ups and pointillist spaghetti western fanfares are all imbued Tortoise's ever changing signature sound. Besides their recorded output, the band’s legacy goes beyond their classic albums as they thrive in their marvellous live performances, when their intricate instrumental architectures reveal their psychedelic, lively and playful nature.
