The Temple
Rest is useless in a profit-driven society. From childhood, we are taught that our bodies are only valuable as labor or commodity. To survive these conditions, most of us live outside of ourselves. We ignore our body’s needs, pushing through discomfort, burnout, and overstimulation just to be “productive." As a result, our spiritual selves drift from the source, wandering the void without a map, perpetually in search of a way back home.
U? programmer AYO presents The Temple as an antithesis to this cultural phenomenon. If rest is useless under capitalism, what happens when we choose to be useless? The Temple answers this question by creating a space for devotees to tend to the temple within. And devotees are simply those who are devoted to their own personal well being, those who hear the call of The Temple and choose to answer it. The call to prayer, the call to rest, the call to healing.
This curation encourages un-productivity and communal connection through lounging, sustenance, crafting, sound healing, altar installation and divination. The Temple operates with the central belief that healing and rest are revolutionary technologies, that co-regulation and collective de-stimulation are subversive acts of resistance.
