Tercet Imperial
Trio Tercet Imperial reimagines the oberek—a whirling, hypnotic couple dance in triple meter from the Radom region of central Poland—through vintage synthesizers and electronic percussion. Two longtime collaborators who move between jazz, electronics and traditional music spent years traveling to village dance parties to learn the music at its source, before founding the group together with a singer and dancer from the Radom region. The starting point is the traditional genre's hypnotic, uneven pulse, which the trio pushes toward Afrobeat, kuduro, dabke, psychedelia and dream-pop. For them, playing this rural repertoire on synthesizers and electronic drums is as natural a continuation of tradition as it has been for decades in the Balkans or West Africa.
