'Punk is not dead - it's turned into cumbia!' excitedly types a YouTube commentator on Son Rompe Pera's Tiny Desk performance. The Gama brothers began playing the traditional Mexican marimba as children - but, as youthful rebellion struck, they turned their attention to punk and psychobilly. Now, they've come full circle, and are keeping alive their family's traditional legacy. Their youthful musical escapades, however, have made this Mexico City band take on the genre in a truly unique way.
