Sima nos é só nos
Sounds of Cabo Verde
Cultural group Sima nos é só nos brings the soul of Cabo Verde to life through batuku, the archipelago's traditional style of music and dance performed by women as a form of community, resistance and storytelling. Driven by the hypnotic polyrhythms of the tchabetta (a traditional percussion) and handclaps, they combine powerful choral vocals and energetic dance with acoustic guitar, percussion and soulful life stories. While it playfully nods to their versatility, it also reflects their unique strength: a collective where multiple generations and different island cultures from the diaspora come together.
This artist is part of Sounds of Cabo Verde, a special program dedicated to the diversity of Cabo Verde music culture, its traditions and the Cabo Verdean diaspora in the Netherlands.
