Sheherazaad

Sheherazaad’s namesake is the legendary Persian queen and storyteller of the frame narrative of ‘The Arabian Nights’. Tracing this kind of creative lineage would be too audacious for many, but for the American performer-composer, it’s a perfect fit. Sheherazaad is at the crest of the wave of South Asian diasporic soundscapes. ‘Qasr’, her 2024 EP, follows the highly-praised single ‘Mashoor’, released late last year on Erased Tapes. It further vouches for Sheherazaad’s gift as a storyteller, inspired by the ebb and flow of migration, and how this forward motion becomes art and music.
