Copenhagen-based noise free rock band Selvhenter’s music surpasses genre and instead plunges towards something much more elemental. Since coming together in 2010, drummers Jaleh Negari and Anja Jacobsen, saxophonist Sonja LaBianca, and trombonist Maria Bertel have achieved this through their unique instrumental setup approach to music-making. Thirteen years later, the results of their unconventional thinking continue to be reaped, as heard on this year’s ‘Mesmerizer’, a purposeful, pulsing collection of songs only Selvhenter could dream up. Importantly, the release marks their first physical output in almost a decade, and their debut on French label Hands in the Dark - the start of an exciting new era for the awe-inspiring joint.
