RÓIS
The artistry and music taste of electronic composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist RÓIS was informed by playing Irish folk songs (passed down through the generations of her family of traditional musicians) as well as by artists like the Beatles, Nirvana, and Bowie; her musical taste then expanded to include techno and jazz. Drawing from traditional sean-nós tunes, she carries them into the modern day with her unique approach to melody and production as well as her electrifying vocal performances. Her latest album MO LÉAN is anchored by a desire to re-contextualize the celebration of death, exploring the Irish pagan tradition of caoineadh: an integral part of the mourning process, during which veiled women gathered around the body to sing and howl.
