Natural Information Society

Since 2010, acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Abrams has been gradually expanding the conceptual underpinnings and musical references of Natural Information Society. As New York Times’ Ben Ratliff wrote: “it’s patient, layered music that’s always heading somewhere, sometimes spare and sometimes complex and shimmering.” Indeed, their music is, in a sense, an expansive form of minimalism, based in repeated and overlaid rhythmic patterns, ostinatos and modalities. Earlier this year, the group released their new album Since Time Is Gravity: an embodiment of George Lewis description of music as “a space for reflection on the human condition.”
