Mother Tongue

Equiped with m’bira, xalam, drumkit, percussion, a voice, household tools and a 220-volt electric clavichord, Mother Tongue brings together three distinctive voices from Amsterdam's improvised music scene: griot singer and percussionist Mola Sylla, pianist and instant composer Oscar Jan Hoogland and jazz drummer Frank Rosaly. Rooted in West African storytelling, Chicago's experimental music lineage and Amsterdam's radical improvisation tradition, the trio meets on an open playground where rhythm, melody, noise and narrative collide. The stage becomes a space for spontaneous storytelling, an old cinema transformed into a laboratory for music made in the moment.
