Lmra Heyya Kulshi — Woman Is Everything
Film
An intimate portrait of Moroccan musician Khadija el Warzazia, directed by documentary filmmaker Erik Kantar between Morocco and New York during the making of her self-titled album. Moving between recording sessions, conversations, performances, and moments away from the stage, the film enters the artist's inner world and examines how her music becomes a means of confronting the patriarchal structures surrounding her. The film follows Khadija back to Morocco and the Gnawa Festival in Essaouira, where she reflects on her relationship to the tradition and on becoming the first woman to perform at the festival. Woven together with intimate footage from the recording studio in New York, these moments trace the distance between tradition and change, and how music operates as a vessel for resistance, independence, and the expression of a woman’s life on her own terms.
