Ishaaq Aarkistra & Ustad Hassan Haider Khan
Curated by Tropical Fuck Storm
Cosmic Indo-jazz ensemble Ishaaq Aarkistra creates ecstatic, raga-based improvisational music based on North Indian classical music, free jazz and psychedelia. Bringing together musicians from seemingly different musical words—Hindustani and jazz—the international group finds common ground through the art of improvisation. On instruments such as tabla, bansuri, pungi, synthesizers and pedal steel, weaving through raga-based compositions, they open up hypnotic and mind-expanding atmospheres. For their show at Le Guess Who? , they perform alongside Ustad Hassan Haider Khan, one of the most prominent players of the traditional double-reed wind instrument shehnai.
Post-apocalyptic acid punk disco scuzzheads Tropical Fuck Storm return to Le Guess Who? for a guest curation that feels like a homecoming. When asked to select artists for this year's edition, they went, as they put it, "a little wild". They've curated a sonically diverse mix featuring longtime musical inspirations, friends and collaborators; artists that they've met on the road, and acts that they've been eager to see live.
