Heith & Tarawangsawelas
Experimentalist Heith and Tarawangsawelas—playing the Sundanese traditional stringed instrument tarawangsa—met in Bandung, Indonesia, in 2017 and their collaboration has continued to evolve ever since. Their first sketches were shaped by witnessing the Reak, a West Javanese style of trance music. Later, while touring together, they further developed their music before consolidating the collaboration with the release of Duori. Conceived as an imaginary word, the album travelled inside lost and found portable recorders, defunct hard drives and expired e-sim cards. Working across long distances deeply influenced the composition, opening space for shifting perspectives and creating music that drifts within and beyond the Sundanese sonic landscape.
