goat (JP)
Curated by Tropical Fuck Storm
Complex yet simple, mechanical yet sensual, goat (JP) perform in a near trance-like state, as their minimalist compositions are an exercise in persistent repetition. Formed in 2013 by Koshiro Hino as a quartet, they expanded into a quintet that fluidly switches instruments depending on the song, spanning from drum kits and guitars to woodwinds and brass. Disregarding traditional musical forms, their melodies focus on muted sounds and harmonics beyond the 12-tone scale. With astonishing precision, they execute patterns so exact they seem machine-programmed: the result is an incredibly impressive display of interlocking rhythms, pointillistic detail and intricate human counterpoint.
This artist is part of the program curated by Tropical Fuck Storm. The post-apocalyptic acid punk disco scuzzheads have curated a sonically diverse mix featuring longtime musical inspirations, friends and collaborators; artists that they've met on the road, and acts that they've been eager to see live.
