Dirty Three
Curated by Tropical Fuck Storm
For the past thirty-three years, instrumental trio Dirty Three occupied a mythic place on concertgoers’ bucket lists around the world, as their live performances are renowned for both fierceness and emotional charge. Armed only with drums, guitar and violin, the band is able to construct majestic crescendos and vast sonic landscapes that exist in the realm of alternative and post rock, but belong to their own universe. That singular power comes from the fury of the power trio: from the mercurial, tumultuous interaction of Jim White (drums) and Mick Turner (guitar); and from Warren Ellis’ charismatic performances, with his violin transforming into a distorted guitar, a synth or a portal to another dimension.
