New supergroup Bleak Squad unites four pillars of Australian art-rock: Mick Turner (Dirty Three) Mick Harvey (Nick Cave &The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey), Adalita (Magic Dirt) and Marty Brown (Art of Fighting). Formed through spontaneous jam sessions, their noir-rock debut Strange Love finds all four members juggle multiple instruments and songwriting, while Adalita and Harvey share lead vocal duties. The resulting songs about love and loss balance hypnotic grooves and shape-shifting arrangements. Fizzing guitars, slippery bass lines and the signature illogical squawk of Turner’s guitar give the album a brooding, romantic energy.
