AFRICA IS THE FUTURE (Nicolas Premier)
Curated by aja monet
Short film AFRICA IS THE FUTURE is a four-part ritual: a true immersion into the mysteries of the universe, guided by the recurring appearance of the Kongo cosmogram. Director Nicolas Premier retraces various stories born of the Black Atlantic and its shores through a deluge of images, in a poetic curation combining original footage, internet sources and archives. While many of these representations seem familiar, some firmly anchored in our collective unconscious, the version that emerges here is revelatory. The unprecedented connections made by the editing bring out unexpected meanings, paving the way for new interpretations of the visible. The film has a profound effect, inviting us to consider each element in relation to the others as an active presence, charged with memory and archetypal power.
