COSMOS Embassy: Khartoum, Sudan
In partnership with Hassan Kamil & Andariyamag
Known for its strong rhythms, melancholy lyrics, and bittersweet taste, the Sudanese music scene is more active than ever. This Embassy features a selection of considerable Sudanese music and artists including Noori & His Dorpa Band, who mixes diverse genres using Noori's Tambo-guitar (a distinctive self-made instrument), a hybrid of an electric guitar, and an electric tambour.
It presents Sudanese reggae artist Wd Alzain, whose bold songs inspire the youth and challenge authorities. Wd Alzain played an essential part in the country's music scene by transcending the typical Sudanese music pentatonic scale into the diatonic reggae scale in a remarkably successful attempt.
And Esaam Satti & Ali Naseralden, who has created a comprehensive art and Sudanization in rap songs using linguistic improvements, alliteration, satire, storytelling, and touches of emotions with Sufism characteristics. Rap music is taking over the current music scene in Sudan with its rebellious tone and lyrics that reflect current events in Sudan.
The voyage through Khartoum will be explored through the eyes of Hassan Kamil & Andariyamag, who strive to create pioneering, innovative, multi-faceted digital platforms and cross-cultural exchange projects to uplift and connect Africans across the continent and diaspora.
