The Line Of Best Fit interview Tune-Yards' Merrill Garbus, on 3 albums she would be crate-digging for at the World's Biggest Record Fair, happening in Utrecht during Le Guess Who? 2017. Read in full here.
Featuring words on synth innovators, a distant cousin, and Madagascar: "Music from this island is as unusual as you might expect from one of the most unusual places on Earth."
"Jean Ritchie is a distant cousin from my mom’s side…come to think of it, my mom probably has this album somewhere but I hate to ask her for her copy. This album particularly is an important record of how folk music from England ended up in the Appalachian Mountains. Those songs that contain traces of how people traveled and what they carried and how they were changed are a never-ending obsession for me. And Jean Ritchie’s voice is like none other, and if you haven’t heard her, please do. I’m sorry never to have met her."
Tune-Yards perform at Le Guess Who? 2017 on Sunday, 12 November, together with a.o. Perfume Genius, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Sun Ra Arkestra, Aldous Harding, Juana Molina, Sevdaliza, Jane Weaver, and Julianna Barwick. Record Planet's Mega Record & CD Fair goes down 11 & 12 November.
