Invited by Bo Ningen to perform at Le Guess Who? 2024, GAISTER announce their self-titled LP and share the first single Sento. The song’s repeated line "I feel everything, everything, everything can be felt" encapsulates the running themes across the record. All the elements - the layers of the earth's crust, the fire of the volcano, the water of the waterfall and the ice - are present in the record.
The trio is an exciting new collaboration between soprano vocalist Olivia Salvadori (Tutto Questo Sentire), drummer and percussionist Akihide Monna (Bo Ningen), and multi-instrumentalist Coby Sey. Their record, out on 1 November via AD 93, captures the embodiment of an encounter, one moment of the trio’s ongoing relationship as artists who communicate with each other through sound, voice and music.
After orbiting in the same circles at each other's shows in London, Sey paired up with Salvadori’s artistic collective Tutto Questo Sentire In 2017 during a residency, after which they were joined by Akihide Monna, while performing together in 2019.
When the trio comes together something entirely new originates from the mix of their different mother tongues (Italian, Japanese and English), musical genres and identities. Olivia Salvadori’s operatic vocals run free, flowing and moving in synergy with Monna’s rhythmic drumming. Sey, who is arguably best known for rapping and producing, sings freely with Salvadori, their voices braided together like a waterfall.
GAISTER perform at Le Guess Who? Festival 2024 on Sunday 10 November as part of the program curated by Bo Ningen. Also performing at the festival are a.o. Theo Parrish, Wadada Leo Smith, GAIKA, Rebecca Salvadori presents MESSENGERS, Ill Japonia & Masumi Saito, and many more.
