Nyahbinghi feat. Ras Asheber, Teshay Makeda and Watusi 87
24 HOUR DUB
Percussionist Edward Wakili-Hick (Nok Cultural Ensemble, Sons of Kemet) presents an ode to Nyahbinghi with a performance that channels the spiritual and rhythmic force of Rastafari drumming through a distinctly London lens: rooted in improvisation, low-end pressure and dub-informed textures. Developed through collective experimentation and deep cultural grounding, the piece reflects Wakili-Hick’s wider practice of treating percussion as a complete Afro-diasporic knowledge system, stemming from ancestral traditions and reaching toward liberated futures. Wakili-Hick will be joined by multi-instrumentalist Ras Asheber, vocalist Teshay Makeda aka The Empress of Roots Soul, and lyricist & rapper Watusi87.
This artist is part of 24 HOUR DUB: a 24-hour session of continuous dub sounds that brings together pioneers, poets, engineers, sound system architects, and a new generation of bass explorers. More info about the program can be found via leguesswho.com/24-hour-dub.
Presented in collaboration with London-based musical movement Touching Bass.
