Musician Domenico Lancellotti (of +2's and Orquestra Imperial) grew up in Rio de Janeiro, and samba was the soundtrack not only in the city but also at home; his father, Ivor Lancellotti, is a revered samba composer. Lancellotti grew up revering the genre, but, also, seeking to revamp it. His most recent strive can be heard on his 2023 record 'sramba', made alongside fellow musician Ricardo Dias Gomes. The album blends Gomes' modular machines with Lancellotti’s instruments, presenting a novel samba proposal. Lancellotti, the genre is inescapable; ‘I bring it into whatever style of music I am making’, he says. Still, something new washes ashore.
