This year, U?, the freely accessible city program of Le Guess Who?, starts a new collaboration with Music Moves to make the dance floor more accessible and inclusive.
Music Moves is a training program in which young adults (17 - 27 years) organize their own music event for people who do not naturally have access to music events.
The dance floor is a place of freedom, a place to discover and embrace each other. But the dance floor doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Therefore, Music Moves trains hundreds of music lovers to become changemakers in the music industry. Music Moves and their participants organize seven inclusive events as part of U? 2024.
Stichting Bijzonder
This event is for visitors who want to be surprised. An event combining music with art and society. Stichting Bijzonder guides talented, vulnerable artists with ambition towards a suitable life as an artist. At the same time, they show society the beauty of these artists's art and the value of meeting them. Several artists are happy to show their work with an interesting story.
This program takes place on Thursday, 7 and Friday, 8 November, from 7 to 9 PM at De Wilg (Mecklenburglaan 3) and is open for public.
Fundament
Fundament is a club night in collaboration with Straatnieuws (street news) for people who are financially challenged. This event takes place in the political and cultural heart of Utrecht: ACU. Straatnieuws is celebrating 25 years of helping the homeless and is there for anyone whose livelihood is at risk. By opening the club night to all Utrechters, Music Moves hopes to bring together fellow citizens from different backgrounds. This way they offer space to the homeless and draw attention to their situation. Come to Fundament to enjoy the freedom of the dance floor and share the joy of music with a fellow Utrechter you haven’t met before.
This program takes place on Thursday, 5 December, from 9 PM at ACU (Voorstraat 71) and is open for public.

United Rhythm
Many young Dutch people spend their weekends at festivals and parties, but this is not the case for all youth, especially young refugees who may spend years in shelters. Everyone deserves a chance to celebrate, so at United Rhythm, held at the AZC Utrecht Overvecht, Music Moves brings everyone together to celebrate what connects us: music. United Rhythm is the party where different nationalities, cultures, melodies, rhythms, and dance moves unite. Each culture has its unique sound and vibe, and on this evening, they’ll blend them into an unforgettable mix of world beats and positive energy. Celebrate diversity and experience the power of music at United Rhythm.

Big Friends
Big Friends is a mentoring program that supports children and young people who grow up in low-income families and could use some extra attention. Big Friends believes in the power of friendship. They make suitable matches between children and adult volunteers, our ‘Big Friends’, who build bridges across age, culture and social background. Music Moves collaborates with Big Friends to organize a music/dance event for children in Utrecht.

Deaf and hard of hearing
What if sound is not a given? What if you hear differently or not at all? Music Moves creates a space where sound and silence merge, where those who are often not heard can find their voice. Through interactive, sensory experiences, they invite you to cultivate empathy and understanding. This experience shifts your perspective from limitation to enrichment. Come, celebrate, laugh, admire and connect. Together, they push boundaries by embracing all voices in our society, including the quietest ones.

Connecting through experience
Connecting through Experience is an event created by Music Moves in cooperation with Stichting Prisma. Stichting Prisma is an organisation dedicated to serving members of LGBTQ+ community within intercultural and ‘newcomer’ backgrounds who face intersectional issues on a daily basis. At this buddy night, recognition and acknowledgement is created through sound, taste and conversation to create a new sense of home together. Music Moves invites guests to tell their own story, share what they are up against and see together how they can cope. This event will include education on the options to seek and get help with these problems but also on how to make their voices heard within and outside their community.

*Some of these events are private, because they are created specially for people who don't naturally have access to music events.
