The Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar
Hidden Musics (2022)
Based in Jajouka, Morocco, The Master Musicians are a collective of Jbala Sufi trance makers who are committed to creating a contemporary representation of a century-old musical tradition. Their latest album, May’s ‘Dancing Under The Moon’, was produced by long-time band leader Bachir Attar, and with all but one of the tracks going over ten minutes in length, it is made clear to the listener that these recordings are an accurate snapshot of this timeless ensemble, whose music is deeply hypnotic and earth-shatteringly intense. To this day, they prove William Buroughs words, as the writer called them ‘the four thousand-year-old rock and roll band’.
