Siti Muharam

Siti Muharam

On Zanzibar singer Siti Muharam’s shoulders rests the legacy of her great-grandmother, taraab music legend Binti Saad. Saad is credited as a true trailblazer, being the first woman in East Africa to record her music in an album ever. In 2020’s ‘Siti of Unguja’ (The Guardian’s Global Album of The Month at the time of release), her great-granddaughter showcases her will to keep her pioneering spirit alive, by mixing traditional sensibilities with more heady, contemporary influences.
