Nature, afrofuturism, jazz, and hip-hop have come together to form Phantom Wizard’s ethereal work. The artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist of Surinamese descent was born and raised in the Dutch capital and embarks on a deeply personal yet profoundly universal journey, punctuated by experimentation and improvisation. On the stage, he is interlocked with his own multifacetedness, rendering his art moving to those who watch him play. In his own words; ‘the technique should serve the expression; the expression comes from the feeling or idea. The feelings and ideas come from your subconscious. It’s magical and unique to you’.
De natuur, afro-futurisme, jazz en hip-hop komen allemaal samen in het luchtige werk van Phantom Wizard. Deze kunstenaar, componist en multi-instrumentalist van Surinaamse afkomst is geboren en getogen in de hoofdstad. Hij is bezig aan een diep persoonlijke en toch heel universele reis, met experiment en improvisaties als vaste tussenstops. Op de bühne is hij één met zijn veelzijdigheid en dat maakt zijn werk ontroerend voor iedereen die hem ziet spelen. In zijn eigen woorden: ‘De techniek moet dienstbaar zijn aan de expressie; de expressie komt vanuit het gevoel of het idee. De gevoelens en ideeën komen uit je onderbewuste, dat magisch is en van jou alleen.’
