Oumou Sangaré
Malian singer Oumou Sangaré has become a global legend. Her voice has toted some of the most celebrated titles in contemporary African music, and she has taken on prestigious stages such as the Sydney Opera House and the Nippon Budokan. The latest entry in her discography is ‘Timbuktu’, the first release on her own Oumsang label. It is a bittersweet listen, as she laments her homeland's troubled state of affairs from afar (she is now based in Baltimore). However, it is also a beautiful sliver of hope courtesy of the Grammy-winning musician.
