Before the release of her first record a decade ago, Quebecois musician Myriam Gendron was busking in Paris, singing Leonard Cohen songs. In a striking full-circle moment, the artist’s newest release, this year’s ‘Mayday’, sees her inching closer than ever to the icon’s delicate balance of light and darkness. Following acclaimed previous works such as 2021’s ‘Ma Délire. Songs of Love, Lost and Found’, Myriam Gendron sinks her teeth into the craft. Singing in English and in French, Gendron reminds the listener that even the most pitch-black night is but a transactional state - this too shall pass.
