Modulation: Elektortek & The Music Machine
Underground Up!
Modulation is Utrecht’s own accessible night of live performances and concerts centered around modular synthesizers and other hardware electronic instruments. A place for newcomers as well as veterans, from ambient to noisemakers, explosive beats, cinematic soundscapes – and everything in between. All performers will be playing in the middle of the space, to make sure you can see where all the sonic magic is happening during each performance.
Veerle Pennock, performing under the name Elektortek, is a creative electronics builder, living beep machine and live performer with modular synth and hardware live-sets. As founder of Utrecht's DIY synthesizer Lab and creative electronics workspace Acid Solder Club, she’s always working on strange machines and unconventional interfaces, and drags them from the soldering cave to the stage. Her musical style can go from ambient to slapping kicks in a few seconds; blending genres, and layering and looping sequences that are bouncing between melodic and melancholic.
Marco and Martijn (of a.o. Cinema Perdu) joined forces to create The Music Machine: an interactive project where the public becomes a participant in a spatial sound installation. During U?, they invite visitors to play on various motorized controls via a self made interface and app running on a tablet, and welcoming them to participate in their soundscape.
Self-run artist collective De Stadsjutters collaborates with Modulation, Rave voor de Rafelranden, and the Utrecht squatting info hour to create a stage for underground artists–promoting and celebrating free spaces, DIY cultures, solidarity, noise, trash and radical resistance.
