Born in Maryland, the artist known as MHYSA was enamored with singing from an early age, performing at church and school. In 2015, she debuted with ‘Power Cuts’, a strong indicator of what would come for her, career-wise - atmospheric ballads and discordant experimental club tracks. Naturally, her music has found a home on progressive labels such as NON and Hyperdub. In spite of appearing alien at first, MHYSA’s work cleverly winks at a wider pop context, as her music is chock-full of references to mainstream stars like Donna Summer, Prince, and Beyoncé. In concert, MHYSA is supported by long-time collaborator lawd knows.
