Regarded as one of Chicago’s most versatile and in-demand drummers, Makaya McCraven moves between genres like jazz, hip-hop and funk at lightning speed. Unquestionably respected as a jazz artist, he believes that a receptiveness to other styles is what truly makes a good jazz player. Ceaselessly inventive and productive, McCraven worked with an impressive array of world class musicians, including Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, Bernie Worrell, Soulive, Charles Neville, Marcus Strickland, and Shabaka Hutchings.
