Julián Mayorga and Ryota Miyake first came across one another at Red Bull Music Academy in 2015. There, the Colombian and Japanese art-pop duo began, and their story rekindled in Montreal, Tokyo, Madrid, and Ibagué. Soon after, in 2019, came ‘Binary Birds’, and, this October, the art-pop combo’s sophomore sound collection, ‘uva-uva’ (uva meaning grape in Spanish). Whisking together punk bolero, Latin no-wave, and the absurdist frenzy of early Talking Heads, Flash Amazonas’ music is as flavorful and sugary as the fruit itself.
