Duma
Curated by Phil Elverum
One listen to Duma’s track “Lionsblood” is enough to let us know what this outsider Kenyan project is all about. Martin Khanja and Sam Karugo, figureheads of the flourishing Nairobi underground metal scene, come together to deliver an exciting and sinister hardcore record released through Uganda’s Nyege Nyege Tapes. As one savvy Bandcamp user puts it: “what if black metal originally emerged from Africa? Here’s your answer”. Duma’s deafening industrial chaos will have you believe it did.
