Felix Manuel’s ears are attuned to the spontaneity of jazz while his production chops create original compositions out of a wellspring of samples, textures and beats. Manuel’s extraordinary 2018 album ‘Portrait with Firewood’ presents his most intimate outpouring yet, rooted in his relationship with the upright piano but blooming out from under the soil with vast electronic miscellany. And, by doing so, DjRUM straddles the digital with the organic in deeply personal fashion.
