Le Cri du Caire - Live at Le Guess Who? 2023
One year ago, Le Cri du Caire released their hauntingly beautiful, self-tilted debut album. We are now thrilled to share the recording of their mesmerizing performance at Utrecht's Jacobikerk during Le Guess Who? 2023, where the group performed the majority of the album, as well as new material.
About
Singer, writer, poet, and expressionist Abdullah Miniawy became, in the wake of the revolution, an artistic emblem for Egypt’s agitated youth. Alongside Peter Corser on the saxophone and Karsten Hochapfel on the cello, he is sure to grip audiences as Le Cri du Caire. Blending rock, jazz, sprinkles of oriental flourishes, spoken word, and Sufi poetry and philosophy, the three-piece adorn each room they play in with a rich metaphorical universe transcending identities and borders. Their self-titled debut, released in January, serves as a sample of what can be achieved on the stage.
In addition, VPRO Vrije Geluiden also recently released a session recorded with the group during Le Guess Who?:
