This year, Japanese psych-rock outfit Bo Ningen are one of the guest curators of Le Guess Who?, with their curation is dedicated to “representing the Bo Ningen community, with lots of collaborative projects and with a strong focus on audiovisual performances.”
As an introduction to their program, Taigen Kawabe, lead singer and bassist for Bo Ningen has compiled a mix for NTS featuring their picks. Tune in below.
The mix features a.o. GAISTER, a new crossover between soprano vocalist Olivia Salvadori (Tutto Questo Sentire), drummer and percussionist Akihide Monna (Bo Ningen), and songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Coby Sey; a collaboration by musicians and composers Klara Lewis and Nik Colk Void; The Messthetics (featuring former Fugazi bandmate and drummer Brendan Canty) with American jazz composer and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis; the ever-evolving and forward-thinking 食品まつり a.k.a. Foodman; and Still House Plants, a British group that bridges elements of sampling, slow core and repetition to create fractious and sharp music with a melting pop heart.
Bo Ningen present their alternate live score to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 magnum opus The Holy Mountain at Le Guess Who? 2024 on Saturday, 9 November. Browse through their full curation here.
