Collecting and sharing music is only one of Zakia’s many pursuits, but it is keenly connected with the rest of her practice. The British broadcaster, writer, and DJ is known for broaching a variety of topics; from Caribbean ancestral drumming to schizophrenia and intergenerational trauma, to improvisation in the arts. On NTS Radio, she is the host of the beloved weekly show Questing w/ Zakia, where she interviews guests and plays celestial sounds from across the planet. As a DJ, she has played in many prestigious venues in London, where she is from (including We Out Here’s coveted festival) and abroad, such as Amsterdam’s Dekmantel.
