Cami Layé Okún presents Insolar Night
Born with in the Kivu province of North Eastern Congo, Kahanga "Vumbi" Dekula grew up in a Swedish missionary home where he picked up the guitar at an early age. Listening intently to the radio, he learned the style and rhythms of Rumba and Soukous from the giants of the Congolese guitar sound, Dr Nico and Franco.
In the early 80’s Vumbi emigrated to Tanzania where he became lead guitarist for the legendary Orchestra Maquis. During lockdown, Vumbi set to work with Karl-Jonas Winqvist (Sing a Song Fighter Records/Wau Wau Collectif) to recorded his debut solo album Congo Guitar at the Helter Skelter Studios in Stockholm.
