The Golden Age Is In Us: Mississippi Records & Archives of the Future
Friday
Sound & Culture Summit
Record label Mississippi Records presents a live presentation combining film, slide show and audio, exploring 20 years of the label’s vast and rarely-seen archives.
Label head and filmmaker Cyrus Moussavi breaks down the research, personal relationships and strokes of luck that brought us music by artists like Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, Brother Theotis Taylor, Abner Jay and George Mukabi. We celebrate the wonder and mystery behind these works, while asking how a mostly analog, DIY archival label can and should operate in 2025. During this keynote we activate what Lonnie Holley calls the “discarded music of the past” in order to hear the future.
