Talk: Music, Tech & Access
In 2021, Pitchfork ran a piece titled “Decolonizing Electronic Music Starts with its Software”. The understanding of a Western bias in production software and platforms used by musicians from all around the globe has slowly but surely trickled in… but has it been properly addressed? In this panel we aim to pair the progressive minds behind two of the key players used by independent artists – Ableton Live and Bandcamp – together with a singular artistic perspective to take stock and compare notes for the future. What features have been implemented to truly decolonizing music making, promotion and indie distribution? Where is still room for improvement? And what steps need to be taken toward a truly inclusive music tech sector?
Moderator: Caroline Whiteley (journalist and electronic music specialist)
Panelists: Pooja B (DJ, Producer, Ableton / Berlin, Germany), Aly Gillani (DJ, Label Founder, Bandcamp / London, UK), Cinna Peyghamy (Musician, Instrument Builder / Paris, France)
