Slauson Malone 1 first came to be when musician Jasper Marsalis began questioning the intersection between popular music and performance art. Since 2019, his unique sonic inquiry - which takes cues from hip-hop and jazz, but is ultimately a genreless vehicle to critique topics within Black political thought - has materialized in two records, the most recent of which being 2020’s ‘Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak)’, compiled by NTS. He is accompanied on stage by cellist Nicky Wetherell.
