PUNK CONNECTIONS: music, art & activism through DIY ideology
PUNK CONNECTIONS
Because of the eagerness in broadening the intersectionality of the punk scene and approaching a more interdisciplinary approach, community curator Bibi Bannink has invited, in collaboration with dB's, artists from various social/cultural backgrounds, who show their art and their voice. Because the punk scene came from a feeling of oppression, it is important to show the position of these identities and their differences within this scene.
It is an interdisciplinary program because stories can convey a stronger message when they are conveyed through different types of communication forms. In the rehearsal rooms of dB's, they show photography and other visual art, while you can overhear people talk, or scream, on the main stage.
Bibi Bannink & dB's want to unite people who have already encountered punk and have a story, or aren’t close to this scene but would like to see what it’s like. It’s also for people who have seen a side of punk that isn’t necessarily diverse and would like to broaden their perspectives.
DIY Label Market (1 - 6 PM)
Music & bands cannot thrive without the work of dedicated labels. No big revenues, but an almost evangelist urge to acquaint the public with new music and offer support to promising young bands that need a physical product to move ahead, this is the mission statement of these DIY labels. At dB's, some of the Netherland's most dedicated DIY labels will present their catalogue: Plato Utrecht, WapshooWap, Geertruida, Attack & Autoreverse, and more.
