Nídia
Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia
This isn’t Nídia’s first rodeo - or, rather, her first visit to Le Guess Who?. The producer is back to grace us with her take on Afro-Portuguese styles such as kuduro, batida, and tarraxinha. On her fourth album, ‘95 MINDJERES’, Nídia’s bravado is dialed up - but so is her sense of fun and mischief. Her latest work is also deeply political, drawing inspiration from Guinea-Bissau women freedom fighters who struggled against Portuguese colonial domination during the 1960s and 1970s.
British-Egyptian award-winning social and intellectual historian Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia, a 13-hour durational performance. From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala, Chromesthesia tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms and explores the history that undergirds Afro-descendant electronic music.
